Tuesday’s election will determine if Democrats’ switching of candidates paid off or if former President Donald Trump’s appeal is stronger than it was in 2020.
Millions of Americans had already cast their ballot by the time Election Day arrived and it’s possible the country could see record voter turnout. The election is expected to come down to a handful of swing states and polling indicates the race is anyone’s for the taking.
After casting his ballot Tuesday morning in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump said people who are concerned he won’t concede if he loses this election are “crazy.”
“If I lose an election, if it’s a fair election, I’d be the first one to acknowledge it,” he is reported to have said.
Trump also snapped at a reporter after they asked if he would tell his supporters to refrain from violence if he loses the election.
“I don’t have to tell them,” he told the reporter during an event in Florida. “My supporters are not violent people.”
Trump added that he “certainly [doesn’t] want any violence” and even accused the reporter of wanting violence for asking the question.
Polls close at various times based on the state where a person is located. Generally, polls will close between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. local time. Precincts will usually start reporting voter tallies shortly after that, although final results can take hours or even days.
