In a bizarre marketing move, the Oreo Cookie company on April 4th debuted a short film (clocking in at two-and-a-half minutes) about someone coming out of the closet.
That’s right; a company that manufactures and sells cookies crafted a short film about coming out of the closet.
No talk about new flavors of cookies, nothing suggesting that Oreo cookies are tasty – just a super dramatic short about someone coming out of the closet.

The only time there’s anything about a cookie in the short is the roughly one second featured where a young kid snatches a couple of Oreos out of the kitchen while some kid is having a heart-to-heart with his mom about being gay.
Oreo captioned the Twitter post where the short film was debuted with, “Coming out doesn’t happen just once. It’s a journey that needs love and courage every step of the way. Share our new film and let someone know you’re their #LifelongAlly.”
