De Armas was asked in a recent interview if the next Bond actor should be female.
‘There’s no need for a female Bond,’ she told The Sun. ‘There shouldn’t be any need to steal someone else’s character, you know, to take over.’
‘What I would like is that the female roles in Bond films, even though Bond will continue to be a man, are brought to life in a different way. That they’re given a more substantial part and recognition. That’s what I think is more interesting than flipping things.’
Rumours over the next James Bond continue to hog the headlines, with everyone from Idris Elba to Tom Hardy, and even Tom Cruise, being touted as the next potential 007.
Bond producer Barbara Broccoli recently confirmed that the next James Bond is yet to be cast and that the follow-up movie won’t be in cinemas before 2025.
De Armas is currently on screen in Netflix action-thriller The Gray Man, co-starring Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling. She’ll also portray Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe in upcoming Netflix biopic Blonde.
