Has he just gotten tired of making money, or is there something else going on? It’s hard to deny the reality: Bill Burr has seemingly capitulated to the left, morphing into the very “dork” he once might have mocked.
Remember when Burr seemed like an everyman, someone who wasn’t afraid to take shots at everyone? Those days appear to be long gone. Now, he’s actively attacking those who once found his humor appealing. Take his recent rant where he calls conservatives “the biggest effing babies” for their outrage over the reimagined Snow White. He even bizarrely conflates the Snow White criticism with anger over a Black Cinderella, completely misrepresenting the core issue. People aren’t upset simply because the actress isn’t white; they’re questioning the fundamental change to a character whose defining trait is “snow white” skin. It’s not about telling kids that people can’t be upset; it’s about the blatant disregard for established lore.
And let’s not forget his podcast. The viewership numbers speak for themselves. It’s genuinely perplexing to see a significant drop in views, from the 150-200k range to a mere fraction of that now. Even having a name like Keith Urban on couldn’t push him past the 100,000 mark. Could it be that people are simply tuning out? We can’t help but wonder if this shift in his comedic direction is the reason behind this decline.
It’s not just the Snow White comments. Remember the “Free Luigi” remarks, or his dodging of questions regarding his extreme statements about billionaires?. When pressed by reporters about these inflammatory comments, Burr resorted to the classic comedian’s dodge: “Hey, I’m just a comedian”. He even claimed he doesn’t watch the news, despite clearly being aware of the Snow White backlash. This reeks of the “clown nose on” tactic, where comedians make outlandish statements and then retreat behind the guise of mere humor to avoid any real accountability.
The numbers don’t lie when it comes to his latest stand-up special either. While his previous specials like “Paper Tiger” boasted a 96% rating and “Live at Red Rocks” garnered an 88%, his most recent offering sits at a paltry 64% with only a single critic review. Even the fans aren’t impressed. This isn’t the sign of an artist at the top of their game.
It seems Bill Burr has traded in his everyman appeal for virtue signaling to a specific audience. While some far-left outlets might be touting a “Bill Burr renaissance,” the reality on the ground, and the numbers, suggest a different story.
