The Mandalorian actor and comedian Bill Burr recently commented on the ongoing trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. He suggested that, if Heard was to lose the trial, she should offer an apology.
In an interview with Monday Morning Podcast, Burr began by revealing he has not been watching the televised trial. “I’m too big a Johnny Depp fan to watch [the trial]. I love that guy and I just — I don’t want to hear all these personal details and shit,” Burr said. “From what I’ve seen, the guy is fucking destroying. And what’s great about this, is if he really does expose this woman for lying. I’m wondering if all these people that, you know, just accepted her lies about him if they’re going to apologize somehow.”
He went on to discuss certain groups and an apparent lack of discussion concerning Heard’s situation and the implications. “All of these women’s groups that when they see a woman that lies like this, which really hurts their position, because there are women out there that are in a relationship that this woman evidently lied and claimed that she was in. And for someone to go out and lie about it, it hurts the people that are actually in it! You would think they would cover this.”
This isn’t the first time Burr has weighed in on a controversial topic, having defended former Mandalorian co-star Gina Carano, who faced immense backlash after comparing the struggles of Jewish people prior to the Holocaust to the perception of Republicans. Burr recently doubled down on his defense, stating, “I thought it was funny that the liberals proved her point.”
The defamation trial stems from an op-ed Heard wrote for The Washington Post in 2018, alleging that Depp physically and emotionally abused her while they were married. Depp and his legal team have maintained the op-ed harmed the actor’s career.
