[10/9/24] A couple in southeast Lincoln had political signs stolen from their front lawn — and it wasn’t the first time.
Joe and Susan Garcia live on 62nd Street near Old Cheney Road.
They caught a man on camera stealing two Trump-Vance signs from their yard on Monday.
“I would never consider going and taking a yard sign out of somebody’s yard,” Susan said. “I mean, it’s just pretty bold.”
The couple had other Trump-Vance signs stolen just a few weeks ago. Joe said they just put up the new signs.
“It’s very discouraging that this is what our world and community has come to, that you can’t express your opinions without being censored,” Joe said.
The Garcias said they will continue showing their support, although they’re uneasy that someone keeps stealing the signs.
“We probably will get some signs and put them back out,” Joe said.
And Susan agreed: “That is our right.”
Joe said he’s seen the man in the video walking around the neighborhood before, and he thinks he lives nearby.
“I will be watching in the evenings, and should he walk by here again, I will probably confront him in a polite manner and try to understand why would you do something like that,” he said.
The Lincoln Police Department said if signs are stolen from your property, you should report it to police.
“I hope that this can stop and that we can all come together and be good American citizens,” Joe said.
